The Inevitable
Understanding the 12 Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future
Three generations ago, a tinkerer struck it rich by taking a tool and making an electric version. Now everything that we formerly electrified, we will cognify (giving something some sort of intelligence). Artificial Intelligence will help us become better pilots, better doctors, better professionals, better creators. There is almost nothing that cannot be made new, different, or more valuable by infusing it with some extra intelligence. Before the end of this century, 70% of today’s jobs will be replaced by automation. Success will go to those who best optimize the process of working with robots and machines. It will be a race with, not against, machines. We’ll spend our money on experiences. As everything becomes filterable and commoditized, the value of experiences will rise. The internet will become the world’s largest copy machine, but what can’t be copied: Immediacy, Personalization, Interpretation, Authenticity, Accessibility, Embodiment, Patronage and Discoverability. Possession will not be as important as it once was. Accessing will be more important than ever. Collectivism and sharing will emerge with a minimum of coordination, progressing cooperation and collaboration. We will interact with our devices with senses, eyes, ears and motions. The volume of creative work in the next decade will dwarf the volume produced in the last 50 year.
